It’s tempting to stay rugged up inside with a big pot of something delicious bubbling away on the stove in winter – but there’s nothing like a walk in our beautiful bayside suburb to get the ideas (and blood) flowing again. Zing! Today’s Chisholm & Gamon blog has a few tidbits to get you moving around our neighbourhood, and learning some unexpected things as you go.
Did you know that our City of Port Phillip has a series of Walking Tours? What better way to make new friends and find out more about the area we live in. There are two which have really caught our eye at Chisholm & Gamon! We’re lucky to have a number of pieces of nationally recognised artworks in the area, and to find out more about their history and purpose, we recommend you attend Public Art in Port Melbourne: Telling The Story. Held on Sunday 19th of June from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon, you’ll be guided by Janet Bolitho starting from Port Melbourne Station. To book for this walk, email walking@portphillip.vic.gov.au. If you’re feeling cheeky you may prefer the July 17th walk called Troublemakers. It is guided by Meyer Eidelson and chronicles the many architecturally beautiful locations that protests have been held in around St Kilda. Meet outside the jolly Luna Park entrance, and RSVP for this event by emailing walking@portphillip.vic.gov.au.
If you’re interested in other walks around the Port Phillip area, the Art Deco and Modernism Society might be the group for you. They hold their own tours all over Melbourne, but you can also buy cute tour guide books with maps to take yourself on a more local holiday! They have a love of the art deco and modernist era architecture which we have many examples of in the St Kilda, Elwood and Elsternwick areas Chisholm & Gamon enjoy working in.
