With the long weekend coming up, Chisholm and Gamon encourage you to fill your winter table with locally produced roasty foods. Luckily Melbourne Food and Wine are holding a series of events called ‘The Roast Collection’. Read on and get roasting!
This month the restaurants and producers across Victoria are heating up their ovens and putting on a show. Get amongst it at the Victoria Market and buy beautifully crisp winter vegetables and fresh organic meats to celebrate with your family this long weekend – or attend one of ‘The Roast Collection’ events in our best Melbourne venues. Here’s a list of the ones that got us a-hankerin’ for cracklin’.
§ Arrosto & Vino at Ladro
Gertrude Street, Fitzroy’s favorite pizzeria (high end though, naturally) is Ladro. For the month of June they’re using that wood oven to roast beautiful dinners rather than just pizza. For $45.00 enjoy Golden Plains pork or Rainbow Trout along with a glass of ‘Thick as Thieves’ vino from the Yarra Valley.
§ Asado Argentinean BBQ at True South
Located in Black Rock (ahh, so close and tempting for our Chisholm & Gamon team in that neighbourhood!), True South is headed up by Mauro Callegari who specializes in that unique Argentinean family feast ‘asado’. Enjoy grass-fed Black Angus short ribs smoked in hickory and served with chimichurri (a fresh and spicy dressing). $38.00 worth of nommy goodness, plus starter, delicious doughnut dessert and vino or birra. How can you resist?
§ Best Regional Roasts @ The Prahran Market
Got a spare Thursday afternoon in June? Head down to the Prahran Market and learn from various Victorian producers how to cook the very best regional roast. This Thursday you can learn to make spit roasted local organic chicken, with roasted mushrooms and baked free range Victorian chicken fillets with winter herbs and braised celery hearts. From 10 am – 2 pm and completely free.
