Some may think that you’ve gone barking mad, but if you’re a Port Melbourne resident you’ve got a new place to leave your precious four-legged pals when you go away – The Pets Hotel.

The Pets Hotel is Melbourne’s very first luxury pet establishment. You can now relax when on holidays, safe in the knowledge that for $490 per week your cat or dog can recline in style in front of their own flat-screen TV whilst you’re away. Is this the sign of the further gentrification of our neighbourhood, or just the natural result of the love we have for our animals in this community? Some of the facilities that this state-of-the-art pet hotel boasts include ‘Central Bark’ which is an indoor dog play centre. Catering to owners who want to check in on their loved furry pals, you can even watch your pet on webcam to ensure they’re doing well. Other innovations include a controlled atmosphere environment which is ‘draft free’, minimising odours and keeping animals (referred to as guests) totally comfortable. The Pets Hotel have all their bases covered, with guests needing to comply with ‘House Rules’ which include being vaccinated and washed before returning to their owners.

Alma Dogs is a St Kilda East based dog-centric organisation focussed around Alma Park and supporting good pet care practices in the City of Port Phillip. Dana Peroutkova is quoted in the Port Phillip Leader regarding The Pets Hotel, saying “My animals are my children. If you can’t find somewhere you are happy for your dogs to go, you just don’t go on holidays or you don’t go out.” A serious side to the import of animals in many lives of folks in our community.
